I have no problem at all standing on the locker in my bow. If the shaft is a bit short for the rise in the bow, mount it a bit further down the gunnel. Won't be as efficient but it will still move you.

I pushed my bare hull with a 10 + year old trolling motor (stern mounter) at 3.2 MPH.  Worked just fine.

With the modern petal, GPS, or remote controlled  models fish from where you like, mount the motor where it needs to be to get enough water.
